Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings present a challenge for earthquake-prone communities. These structures are important historic, architectural, cultural, and economic landmarks, but their vulnerability to earthquakes imperils these buildings and the people in them.

The URM Seismic Resilience Symposium, July 18-20, 2019, is a three-day event for architects, engineers, owners, property managers, and anyone that might deal with URM buildings.

Urbanism Next

AIA Oregon is proud to be a partner of the 2nd National Urbanism Next Conference, held May 7-9, 2019 in Portland, OR.

Last year, we discussed how technology is changing cities. This year, we will focus on the ways that technological innovations can be harnessed to achieve desired outcomes. What has been tried? What has worked? What has not worked? What should we try next? How can the private and public sectors collaborate to ensure that desired outcomes drive technological innovation rather than the other way around?

In this month's Eugene Section Meeting, members Kaarin Knudson, AIA and Curt Wilson, AIA will lead a discussion on the current local legislative issues affecting increasing housing density and increasing affordable housing stock.

These issues are being discussed locally with many voices debating the pros and cons on the potential zoning changes to all R1 properties. Increased affordable housing is also being incentivized with increased local construction excise taxes which will be applied to a broad range of projects.

Do we have a unified voice from our membership as professionals? Kaarin and Curt will give us updates on the current debates and implementation schedule.  These are relevant discussions to our practices as well as to our life here in the Willamette Valley.

There is no cost to attend.  Food and drink will be available at the venue.
