Illegal Practice of Architecture – Public Information
AIA Oregon provides this reporting pathway as a public service to help protect the integrity of architectural practice in Oregon and to support licensed architects who practice ethically and lawfully.
Our Role
AIA Oregon does not investigate, arbitrate, adjudicate, or make determinations regarding alleged illegal practice. We have no regulatory or enforcement authority and do not issue findings, penalties, or judgments.
Our role is limited to:
Receiving information from the public regarding potential instances of illegal or unlicensed practice of architecture;
Reviewing submissions for completeness
Timely referral of relevant information to the Oregon State Board of Architect Examiners (OSBAE), the sole regulatory authority responsible for investigation and enforcement.
Regulatory Authority
The Oregon State Board of Architect Examiners (OSBAE) is the agency empowered by the State of Oregon to investigate complaints, determine whether violations have occurred, and take any enforcement action deemed appropriate. All decisions regarding compliance, discipline, or corrective action rest exclusively with OSBAE.
Purpose of This Process
This reporting process exists to:
Protect the public by encouraging awareness of potential unlicensed or illegal practice;
Support good actors within the profession by upholding professional standards
Help ensure that licensed architects are not unfairly impacted or misrepresented by the actions of bad actors operating outside the law.
By serving as a conduit for information, AIA Oregon helps strengthen trust in the profession while respecting the authority and due process of the state’s regulatory system.
Important Notes
Submission of information to AIA Oregon does not constitute a formal complaint.
AIA Oregon makes no representation regarding the accuracy or outcome of any reported matter.
Individuals seeking regulatory action should be aware that OSBAE may request additional information directly as part of its independent review process.
If you believe an individual or firm may be practicing architecture illegally in Oregon, you may submit information here for referral to OSBAE, or you may contact OSBAE directly.
