AIA Oregon Board Supports Call to Preserve Belluschi’s Christ the King Church

The AIA Oregon Board of Directors has voted to send a communication to the Archdiocese of Portland Building Commission in support of a letter from Paddy Tillett, FAIA, urging careful consideration of proposed changes to Christ the King Catholic Church in Milwaukie.

Designed by Pietro Belluschi, FAIA, the church is an important work by Oregon’s most celebrated architect and Portland’s only recipient of the AIA Gold Medal. The Architectural Heritage Center has also placed the building on its 2026 Most Endangered Places list.

In taking this action, the Board joins members of the Belluschi family and our partners in Oregon’s architecture and preservation community in asking that the significance of this building be considered carefully as decisions about its future are made.
