S+B James Construction Celebrates the Retirement of Sam Uccello

After 11 years with the S+B James Construction Design-Build team and a career spanning more than three decades in architecture and construction, Sam Uccello, AIA, DBIA, NCARB, is retiring.

Sam’s career as an Architect has taken him from Illinois, Delaware, Florida to Oregon, where he has designed and led projects across a wide range of markets and communities. His architectural perspective was also shaped by a year studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Versailles, France—an experience that broadened his approach to design and complemented a career built around creativity, thoughtful problem-solving, and collaboration.

During his time with S+B James, Sam played an important role in shaping projects including the Rogue Credit Union South Medford Support Services Center, Providence Stewart Meadows Medical Office Building, Central Point Public Works, and several projects for the Coquille Indian Tribe. One project Sam was especially proud of was the Ko-Kwel Wellness Center for the Coquille Indian Tribe, where he helped create a facility that brought the Tribe’s healthcare services together while honoring its heritage through a design inspired by the shape of a traditional Leister Spear and thoughtfully incorporating natural light, cultural elements, and native materials. 

Sam's ability to guide a project from early concept through construction, while balancing function, aesthetics, and the client’s vision, has made a lasting impact on our team and the communities where we build. 

As Sam begins his next chapter, we are grateful for the creativity, experience, and partnership he has brought to S+B James and wish him all the best in retirement.
