How Precast Builds: An Introduction to Precast Concrete Systems
Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (G123)
1 AIA LU|HSW

Presented by Nikolaus Mixon and Zak Perkerewicz, Outside Sales Reps, Knife River Prestress

Now more than ever, owners and designers are choosing modern prefabricated construction techniques for their projects. Precast, prestressed concrete systems provide construction speed, offsite fabrication in controlled facilities for year-round construction, design flexibility, reduced project risk, improved energy performance, and enhanced resilience against hazards such as fire and severe weather.

This course provides an overview of how precast concrete components are manufactured, PCI's industry certification program, and examples of sustainable, resilient architectural and structural precast concrete applications.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain an understanding of architectural and structural precast concrete systems, connections, and constructability.

  2. Explore the benefits of precast concrete to gain understanding of its role in reducing costs, design flexibility, energy efficiency, and building performance.

  3. Learn how precast concrete products can deliver a multitude of textures and finishes.

  4. Understand the concept of resiliency and how precast concrete systems provide robust multi-hazard protection.
