ZGF began our architectural practice 70 years ago in Portland, Oregon. Rooted in the Pacific Northwest, our contributions to the world are shaped by our reverence for the beauty of the natural environment and deep commitment to its stewardship. The instinct to build community is foundational for our practice and reflected in our work, which has always been derived from the particulars of the climate, the place, and the purpose of the building, rather than a signature style.

Our ethos is simple but timeless: use local materials, maximize access to daylight and views, leverage technology to accomplish high-performing and resilient design, and ensure the result is reflective of the people and the community it will serve. Standing as testimony to this ethic, ZGF was honored with the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Firm Award, recognizing the firm’s “high standards, humanistic concerns, and unique ability to capture the spirit of a place and the aspirations of its inhabitants.”
