Get Involved and Make a Difference

Dear AIA Oregon Members,

As I reflect on my time serving on the AIA Oregon Board, I am reminded how meaningful this work has been; not only as a professional commitment, but as a personal opportunity to contribute to the future of architecture in our state. My time on the board has deepened my appreciation for the work and contributions of our members, committees, and sections, all of which are essential to the health and vitality of our profession across Oregon.

Board service has given me a broader view of the issues shaping our profession, from national and state legislative advocacy and public engagement to member support, education, and the long-term strength of our local architectural community. It has also connected me with colleagues across Oregon whose perspectives, generosity, and commitment continue to inspire me.

With upcoming open positions on the AIA Oregon Board, I encourage you to consider applying. You do not need to have every answer before stepping forward. What matters most is a willingness to listen, collaborate, think strategically, and help strengthen the organization that supports our profession and the communities we serve. As a mid-career architect, I especially encourage younger and emerging professionals to get involved. Your voices, experiences, and ideas are essential to shaping the future of our state chapter and ensuring it reflects the next generation of practice.

If you have ever wondered whether your voice could make a difference, I can say from experience that it can. Serving on the board is a chance to shape priorities, build relationships, and help ensure AIA Oregon reflects the breadth, talent, and values of its members at every career stage.

I hope you will give this opportunity serious consideration and encourage others—especially those earlier in their careers—who may be ready to serve. AIA Oregon is strongest when more members bring their ideas, experiences, and leadership to the table.
