Firm billings for April 2023 

Architecture firm billings softened in April with a score of 48.5. A majority of firms also reported that they expect 2023 firm profitability to be equal to or higher than 2022 levels. The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index, a leading indicator of nonresidential construction, is available to AIA members for free by contacting economics@aia.org

Latest residential firm trends 

The AIA's Home Design Trends Survey is a recognized source of emerging trends in residential design and business conditions at residential firms. The latest release shows trends relating to accessibility remain popular along with outdoor spaces. Meanwhile, project billings, inquiries, and design contracts showed modest weakness in Q1.

2023 SLS Next Gen scholarship submissions open    

The AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) and the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) will select up to two young professionals seeking licensure, or newly licensed to be chosen as 2023 Summer Leadership Summit (SLS) Next Generation Scholars.

The summit will be held in Chicago on July 21-23, with complimentary registration and recognition for selected recipients. Submissions are due May 26 at 5pm EST. Learn more and apply here >

Call for papers: 2023 AIA/ACSA Intersections Research conference    

AIA and ACSA are accepting papers for the 2023 Intersections Research Conference to be held at UMass Amherst October 19-21. This year’s thematic focus on Material Economies will bring together researchers and designers from practice and academia. Themes include circular economy, embodied carbon, equity, health, innovation, resilience, transparency, and technology. Submissions are due by June 7.
