The national Small Firm Exchange (SFx) is beginning to work on its 2023 call for applications. A position description and process for selection are being drafted for a July 1 distribution. The Young Architects forum (YAF) is hosting Mission 2130 on August 25-27, 2022, in Pittsburgh. Mission 2130 is the 30th anniversary summit for the YAF and seeks to explore what the profession will look like in 100 years. Accepted attendees are fully funded to attend the event. 2022 AIA Upjohn Research Initiative grant funding

The Upjohn grants annually funds up to six research grants of $15,000-$30,000 per recipient for projects completed in a 6- to 18-month period. Upjohn Research grant funding will be allocated to projects related to the priorities outlined in AIA’s Climate Action Plan and AIA’s Strategic Plan. Submissions are due September 1, 2022. Kimberly Dowdell elected AIA's 2024 president

Delegates at the 2022 AIA Annual Meeting elected Kimberly Dowdell, AIA (left), as 2023 First VP/2024 President-elect. Ms. Dowdell will be the 100th President of AIA.

Britt Lindberg, FAIA (middle), was elected 2023-2024 AIA Secretary, and Illya Azaroff, FAIA (right), was elected 2023-2025 At-large Director.

Additionally, delegates approved three Bylaw amendments and a resolution which allows International Associate members to be eligible for Associate Emeritus membership.  That amendment to the AIA Bylaws will be presented to the delegates for approval at the 2023 Annual Meeting.

2022 Annual Meeting information

The virtual 2022 Annual Meeting takes place 12-3pm EST on June 9, 2022.

The 2022 Official Delegate Information Booklet is available on the meeting page site on aia.org, here. Note that the online accreditation of delegates opened on April 29 and closes on May 23. The apportionment of delegates per component was shared on April 29.

Firm billings for April 2022

AIA's Architecture Billings Index is a recognized leading indicator for nonresidential construction and is available to AIA members for free. April’s index showed strong growth, with a score of 56.5. Firms also expect their expenses related to health care and technology to see the largest increases in the coming year.
