Future Vision (FV2019) is a day-long symposium that brings industry professionals together to discuss topics about equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), their importance relative to the health of the industry and develop tools necessary to promote equity in the profession.
For its third edition, FV2019 will convene at the University of Oregon – Portland Campus. The venue for this year is as important as the topics at hand. The future of the profession lies in the hands of our students, our next generation, and the issues surrounding equity are some of the most important challenges that current and future generations of designers will need to address. Our future leaders are rightfully demanding that EDI be included in conversations around social justice, representation in various industries, gender disparity in the workplace, work-life integration, and compensation. As an example, the University of Oregon’s launch of the Fellowships in Design for Spatial Justice Initiative in the School of Architecture & Environment and the appointment of a Dean’s Diversity Fellow has the potential to elevate conversations around equity and justice in design education. Efforts like these offer great template for the AEC industry to follow.
FV2019 is the culmination of past events organized by AIA Oregon, which have broadened the EDI discussion and given the AEC industry a common vocabulary to openly discuss the issues and risk of inaction. FV2019 will focus on assembling a toolkit to create more equitable, diverse, and inclusive practices. Join us for a day of information sessions, workshops, panel discussions, and inspirational storytelling, with ample time for networking. Multiple educational tracks will be offered. Let’s embrace the reality of a changing world and work together to do so.
