In this session of our Digital Design Series, Bora Architecture & Interiors will present on their OAA award winning project - Art Rutkin Elementary School
1 AIA LU|HSW
Art Rutkin Elementary School in Tigard, OR, was designed to connect elementary-aged students with the natural world. The school is nestled into an open hillside with a sweeping roof oriented to the southern sun, and a commons that features glulam beams that reflect the surrounding forest. A net-zero electric building that was designed to be converted to 100% net zero operations in the future, this session will explore the design and engineering systems that resulted inits measured high performance operations.
Learning Objectives
Examine how the building’s orientation takes advantage of solar access to both drive low-energy operations and enhance the indoor environmental quality for students.
Learn how ongoing energy monitoring allowed for improved performance over time to ensure consistent indoor environmental quality for elementary students.
Understand how the design of Art Rutkin Elementary School honors the school's rural roots in a modern facility, including the utilization of regional and healthy materials that support the health and safety of young learners
Explore how design strategies connect diverse spaces through views and transparency to promote a sense of community and student well-being within the school
