This 2-hour session will provide an overview of applicable accessibility requirements related to publicly funded housing. We will clarify where HUD's Section 504, ADA Title II, and Oregon's vistability requirements apply and the key differences from the typical requirements. Following up on visitability, the reasoning and principles of Aging-In-Place will be discussed. Current best practices in residential design will be introduced. Presented by Joshua Klyber, Jensen Hughes

Join AIA Oregon for a tour of the Cleveland Commons permanent supportive housing project in Bend, led by Gary North, Vice President and Ryan Hansen, Project Engineer of R&H Construction and Briana Manfrass, Managing Principal and Brandon Lanius, Project Designer of Pinnacle Architecture.

This is an active construction site. All necessary personal protective equipment is required. Please wear long pants, sturdy/closed toed shoes and sleeves (either short or long, no sleeveless attire). R&H will provide hardhats, safety vests and eye protection at the site.

Cleveland Commons is a permanent supportive housing development serving Central Oregon individuals exiting chronic houselessness. The three-story, wood framed building consists of 33 units of housing, common space for supportive services, bike storage and dog park.

Support services onsite will be led by non-profit organization Shepherd’s House Ministries, NeighborImpact and Central Oregon Fuse. Services include 24/7 on-site staffing, wraparound case management and resource connections, community-building activities, on-site resident health care coordination and more.

The tour will meet at the location.

Parking Notes: The project is located near residential areas off SE Reed Market Road. The subcontractors typically park on SE 4th street although street parking on other neighborhood streets is also available. Carpooling is encouraged if possible.

Join AIA Oregon and Matt Dreska and Jim Landin of LRS Architects for a tour of Canal Commons.

Completed in 2023, Canal Commons is a great example of energy-efficient design and construction. Combining solar energy and energy net efficiency measures reduces Canal Commons’ energy consumption by 75-80 percent from Oregon’s code minimum. During the course of the tour, participants will learn about how the Earth Advantage Platinum Certification was achieved, the work done with the Energy Trust of Oregon on the Path to Net Zero, and an overall explanation of the systems in place that make Canal Commons one of the most sustainable and efficient Affordable Housing properties in Oregon.

Notes: This is a finished site, so PPE is not required. Guests should meet at the Community Room and if there isn't any parking left on site, feel free to park on the street.
