COTE Digital Design Series

The Value of Mentorship and Internships for Firms and Individuals in the Clean Energy Industry

CE Pending

Energy Trust of Oregon and AIA Oregon are hosting this newest selection in our Digital Design Series—highlighting how the Net Zero Emerging Leaders Internship (NZELI) program can help support firms in meeting their AIA 2030, MEP 2040 or SE 2050 commitments.

Learning Objective 1:
Describe lessons learned from AIA 2030, MEP 2040 and SE 2050 carbon commitment reporting, including the process of identifying how to collect design performance data. An overview of reporting processes will include how tracking, reporting, and analyzing previous projects influences a firm’s design process and ultimately the emissions of future buildings.

Learning Objective 2:
Understand how evaluating the energy and carbon performance of a company’s design portfolio can lead to both firm-wide and individual professional growth.

Learning Objective 3:
Discuss the value and impact of a dedicated position focused on carbon commitment reporting and the import it can have on the success of a firm’s carbon commitment goals. Attendees will understand how architects, engineers, and designers can support a designated champion to influence the practice around firm’s data reporting, sustainability action plan, and design guidelines that have a positive and lasting impact on their buildings' occupant health and wellbeing.

Learning Objective 4:
Understand how grants that support internship and mentorship can provide an emerging professional with hard and soft skills, including exposure to new technology, modeling tools, data collection standards and new reporting workflows within a firm. Additionally, participants will learn what is needed to ensure a hired intern finds success in their new role, leading to upcoming emerging professionals with the high-performance building knowledge necessary to meet the 2030 Challenge targets.
