Durability for Steep Pitched Roof Assemblies through Vapor Management
1 AIA LU|HSW Available

There are several roofing underlayments available and determining the appropriate one can be based on several contributing factors - climate, building codes, roof type, pitch, and a variety of others. In this course, we will explore the importance of considering vapor management in the roof and attic assembly, in order to create a durable, steep pitched roof.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the performance criteria for different code compliant roofing underlayments.

  • Understand why moisture management and vapor permeance, under the roofing material, are more critical as focus has shifted to unvented roof assemblies.

  • Understand the limitations of current codes & testing criteria when specifying materials for high-performance roofing applications.

  • Recognize the potential impact of improper detailing at vulnerable locations in the roof assembly.
