Digital Design Series - AIA Oregon Presents: Holst

1 AIA LU|HSW Available

Holst Architecture presents their 2022 Oregon Architecture Awards Winners: Merit Award Recipient Hearth, and Honor Award Recipient Seaside Civic and Convention Center

Hearth:

In this session, Holst will share about their project, Hearth—a groundbreaking 161-unit mixed-use building that elevates the standard of living in Downtown Boise. The development is part of a long-term plan to make the Central Addition neighborhood a vibrant cultural and community hub for the city. In conjunction with the city of Boise’s vision for a mixed-use district, Hearth includes apartment units in multiple configurations including studios, one- and two-bedroom, and live/work options in addition to ground-floor retail/restaurant. The building’s “Z” shape pulls the building massing from the street while maximizing usable square footage inside. This creates space for the fourth-floor courtyards, which further enliven the streetscape. Hearth’s mature and elevated design, attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship establish Hearth as Idaho’s premiere apartment community.

Seaside Civic and Convention Center:

This session will explore the renovation and expansion of the Seaside Civic and Convention Center and how it connects the facility to its natural and urban context, improving its functionality, appeal, and visibility. The Center was originally built in 1971 and has more than doubled in size with four expansions in the 1980s and 1990s. The new layout is designed to support an array of activities with an appropriately scaled pre-function space that improves the building's circulation and unites the individual program pieces. Seismic upgrades, including new ninety-foot-deep pier foundations, increase the building's resiliency during an earthquake. Strategic design choices integrate the building into the center of Seaside, supporting the City’s goal to attract new visitors for year-round activity that bolsters the economic strength of the coastal town during the off-season.
