ROAD to Housing Act advances
The bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act of 2025, led by Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), unanimously passed the Senate Banking Committee on July 29. Combining provisions from 38 prior bills, it aims to expand housing supply, streamline permitting, support first-time buyers, and strengthen oversight—especially for rural and low-income communities. The bill now awaits full Senate debate and House markup.
AIA Collaborative Achievement Award on hiatus
On the recommendation of the AIA Awards Task Force and supported by the AIA Board of Directors, the AIA Collaborative Achievement Award will not host a competition in the 2026 national awards cycle. The competition hiatus will allow:
Evaluation of the program's scope, purpose, and value proposition,
Exploration on how collaboration is defined in current architectural practice, and whether the award’s intent can be reframed to generate broader participation and impact.

AIA opposes EPA's new position on Greenhouse Gas Deregulation
WASHINGTON – August 5, 2025 – The American Institute of Architects (AIA) strongly opposes the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) anti-science decision to rescind the long-standing finding that greenhouse gas emissions endanger planetary, ecosystem and human health.
